INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 26, 2025) – Thompson Thrift, a full-service nationally recognized real estate company and one of the nation’s leading multifamily developers, earned national recognition today as a winner of the 2024 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)/Builders Mutual Insurance Company Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) winner in the category of Multi-family Safety Program of the Year for companies with more than 50 team members.

The goal of the SAFE awards program is to recognize the achievements of single- and multi-family builders, remodelers, specialty trade contractors and others whose efforts successfully advance safety in the industry. Being recognized as a winner means that NAHB acknowledges Thompson Thrift's leadership and commitment to improving construction safety.

"Safety is our number one priority at Thompson Thrift, so we are incredibly proud to be recognized as a SAFE winner,” said Matt Nickel, Senior Vice President of Project Controls for Thompson Thrift Construction. "This NAHB award underscores our proactive approach to safety, from daily job site discussions to comprehensive training programs, and is a testament to Thompson Thrift's unwavering commitment to the well-being of our team members and partners."

Thompson Thrift was recognized with the award due to its exceptional safety standards and innovative approach to transforming its safety culture, including the implementation of its highly effective ‘All-Hands Safety Meetings.’ These weekly meetings, organized by individual on-site construction teams and overseen by the safety department, provide a structured yet open forum to discuss high-risk tasks, potential hazards and other potential safety concerns amongst all team members and subcontractors.

Thompson Thrift also has a dedicated safety team, a comprehensive written safety program, and an 85-point weekly safety checklist and corresponding monthly audit to proactively identify items that may need additional oversight. As part of its commitment to continuous education, Thompson Thrift also conducts a "Lunch and Learn" program, providing team members and subcontractors with opportunities to discuss safety topics and best practices in an interactive setting.

Nickel continued, “With more than 1,000 subcontractors working on Thompson Thrift developments across the country, we remain committed to ensuring that every individual is equipped with the knowledge and resources to work safely and efficiently.”
