Charleston, SC

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Sept. 14, 2026) - Thompson Thrift, a full-service nationally recognized real estate company and one of the nation’s leading multifamily developers, today announced that it will develop The Whitmore at Ingleside, a new 327-unit Class A multifamily community located within the Ingleside master-planned development in North Charleston. This marks Thompson Thrift’s first development in South Carolina and expands the company’s national footprint to 25 states.

“Expanding into South Carolina and reaching 25 states is an important milestone for Thompson Thrift,” said Josh Purvis, Managing Partner of Thompson Thrift Residential. “We are excited to enter the Charleston market with The Whitmore at Ingleside, a thoughtfully designed community that will meet the region’s growing demand for high-quality rental housing in a well-connected location.”

Situated on approximately 19 acres near the recently completed Weber Boulevard interchange and Interstate 26, The Whitmore at Ingleside will offer a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes in three- and four-story buildings designed to meet the growing demand for high-quality rental housing in one of the Southeast's fastest-growing markets. Construction is expected to begin this month, with resident move-ins targeted for November 2027.

Apartment homes will feature elegant quartz countertops, stainless-steel appliances, hardwood-style flooring, smart-home technology, full-size washers and dryers, walk-in closets, detached garages and private patio, balcony and yard options. Community amenities will include a resort-style swimming pool, 24-hour fitness center, pickleball court, pocket park, electric firepit gathering areas, grilling stations, pet spa, two dog parks, resident social hub with billiards, coffee bar, focus suites, conference room and other spaces designed to support both work and leisure.

“The Whitmore at Ingleside is positioned to benefit from the Charleston region’s strong connectivity, continued employment and population growth and expanding infrastructure,” said Jesse Houghtalen, Senior Vice President of Development. “Residents will enjoy convenient access to major employers, downtown Charleston and other key destinations, as well as the amenities and recreational opportunities planned within the Ingleside community.”

The community's location within the 1,500-acre Ingleside master-planned development provides residents with integrated commercial, industrial and recreational uses, along with more than 200 acres of green space. Residents will also benefit from excellent regional connectivity and convenient access to downtown Charleston, Charleston International Airport, Palmetto Commerce Park, Joint Base Charleston, Boeing, Mercedes-Benz Vans and numerous other major employers.

Charleston's economic momentum continues to accelerate as major employers invest billions across aerospace, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, logistics and life sciences. Recent expansions include Roper St. Francis Health's $1.2 billion, 328-bed hospital campus in North Charleston, Boeing's $1 billion expansion, Volvo Cars' expansion expected to generate approximately 1,600 additional jobs, and KEEL's $70 million defense manufacturing facility supporting U.S. Navy submarine programs. Together, these investments are reinforcing the Charleston region's position as one of the Southeast's premier employment hubs while driving sustained demand for high-quality housing.

The Whitmore at Ingleside name reflects the community’s polished, heritage-inspired identity and soft, coastal-neutral design, which are intended to create a welcoming residential experience in the growing North Charleston corridor. The development will be capitalized with equity from the Thompson Thrift 2026 Multifamily Development, LP.

Over the past 40 years, Thompson Thrift has invested more than $7.3 billion into local communities and has become known as a trusted partner engaged in all aspects of development, construction, leasing, and management of high-quality real estate projects across the country. With the addition of South Carolina, Thompson Thrift now operates across 25 states, underscoring the company’s continued growth and national reach.
