Senior Tax Accountant

Indianapolis, IN  •  Full Time

Job Description

Thompson Thrift is seeking a Full-Time Senior Tax Accountant to work out of the corporate office in Indianapolis, IN. As the Senior Tax Accountant, you will handle the day-to-day tax functions for the organization.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with fixed asset reconciliation
  • Assist with research on new tax jurisdiction in areas of pass-through tax, franchise/excise tax, sales/use tax, any other specialty taxes
  • Use data and insights to support decision-making
  • Assist with property disposition calculation on tax implications
  • Assist with tax busy season tasks including compiling and reviewing trial balances, new investor lists for new entities, communicating with CPA firms, distributing Sch. K-1s to all investors, collect internal signature and processing of all returns
  • Assist with tax workpaper preparations for all entities, corporation ops, construction company, and development companies
  • Uphold the company's code of ethics and business conduct


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting / Finance
  • 2+ years of related experience in public accounting firm
  • Proficiency with computer platforms and applications
  • State and local tax return compliance experience 
  • Detailed oriented

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active CPA / in pursuit of obtaining CPA certification
  • Sound knowledge of tax compliance methods for Real Estate Partnerships and S- corporations
  • Sound knowledge of state and local tax allocation and apportionment
  • Considerable knowledge of partnership structures and their impact on real estate transactions and corresponding tax liabilities
  • Considerable knowledge of MACRS/ADS depreciation methods for real estate related fixed assets

The employee occasionally performs work on-site at construction work sites, office locations, and/or off-site venues. Performing this job will sometimes require the employee to walk work sites that do not have infrastructure, this includes walking on uneven surfaces, through mud, through ruts, etc. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office or remote setting. The noise in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work at construction work sites where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and the risk of electrical shock. The noise in the construction work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is required to work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
