Historian/Archivist Coordinator

Job Description

Thompson Thrift is seeking a Full-Time Historian/Archivist Coordinator to work out of the corporate office in Indianapolis, IN. The Historian/Archivist Coordinator is responsible for the assembly, organization, cataloging, curating, and preservation of records, photos, videos, and historical "artifacts" relevant to the evolution of Thompson Thrift and its owners. They will organize, catalog, and digitize personal trips of ownership as well as corporate photos, news clippings, and other historical information. This person will be responsible for creating and curating a room (exhibit) of collected materials. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Gather historical data from pictures, articles, books, and “artifacts”
  • Interview Paul Thrift and others for outline and guidance to aid in the analyzing and interpreting historical information to determine its significance and how it fits into the company’s timeline.
  • Trace historical information and bout the company through research
  • Preserve and maintain documents and objects
  • Create and manage a system to maintain and preserve records
  • Organize and classify archival materials
  • Safeguard records by creating digital copies
  • Arrange, exhibit, and maintain collections
  • Set and administer policy guidelines concerning access to materials
  • Maintain and catalog of all new incoming materials


  • A high school diploma is required, a college degree is preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to examine information and data in historical sources and draw logical conclusions from them, whether the sources are written documents, visual images, or material artifacts.
  • Ability to interview people to collet oral histories, consult with existing and previous team members and collaborate with colleagues in the workplace.
  • This person will investigate past company events/milestones, people, and projects, decipher historical information, and identify how the past has affected the present.
  • Ability to examine and process information from many historical documents, texts, and other sources.
  • Writing skills are essential for this position as they can often present their findings in reports, articles, and books.
  • Organizational skills with ability to assemble and document information in chronological order and create exhibits.
  • Excellent computer skills to develop a detailed database of documented materials and how the information is stored and accessed.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize several projects and work independently.
  • High level of interpersonal savvy and emotional intelligence.
  • High ability to instill trust when managing sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.
  • History of leading implementation of new projects.

Performing this job will sometimes require the employee to walk work sites that do not have infrastructure, this includes walking on uneven surfaces, through mud, through ruts, etc. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office or remote setting. The noise in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work at construction work sites where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and the risk of electrical shock. The noise in the construction work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is required to work in compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
